This book opens a window to a world very different than what we Indians live in and in the process gives us a glimpse of ourselves.

Europe for a bargain offers a quick whirlwind tour of memories, places & familiar emotions from my first visit abroad as a 'middle class Indian' from years ago. Lot of observations of the author are spot on, like casually weaving in references to places visited in conversations months after the said trip is made. The subtle underlying humor does help the narrative . This is short, 67 pages, perfect for a short flight of couple hours where you just want to read,relax and not worry about other existential issues. The book is well researched. The author lays out the highlights of the popular tourist spots visited in a no-nonsense, no-frills attached fashion. I learnt few facts that I never knew.Sometimes the author does slip into cliched references to Indian mannerisms and other stereotypes, which is a bit of a distraction from the narrative. All in all a good read and as we (Indians) like to call a 'paisa vasool' ( a good return on investment).

It is a book that instantly transports us to Europe, lifting the mood and spirits along. It is a concoction of fun and facts in right proportions. Authors observations of the places are unique, yet, her take on ordinary interactions, surrounding and people are far more appealing and hilarious. A perfect book to fill our lazy Sunday afternoons....
